IGI/First Ground School

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

The opportunity arose for me to teach a Instrument ground school. I jumped at the chance and took my IGI written and picked it up from the FSDO yesterday.

Today was the first day of class. It went well for my first day as a teacher. I enjoyed it. Instrument stuff is not my strong point in my flying career. So this will help me as much as my students. I just hope I can do a good job and I hope they can get their monies worth from my ground.

Completed!

Ride went really well. This was the first checkride that I was not nervous for and I didn’t study at all. I wanted to test myself a bit.

The Oral lasted about a hour with the usual first 20 minutes of going over the 80710, ID’s, logbooks, and chit chatting. Talked about P-factor, Carb Ice, Props and some performance stuff. Had to wait a hour for my airplane so I had a bunch of time to think what I was going to screw up. Did a Soft Field take off and out to the practice area. Started off with Chandells which where good. Next some steep turns at which my altimeter hand didn’t budge which the examiner commented on. He also commented alot about how much he liked my Lazy Eights, he said ” you know those where really nice.” Emergency decent fallowed by Eights on Pylons then it was back to the airport. I did a soft field, flapless. and power off landing and that was it.

I felt that this was by far my best check ride, it was just fun.

Now its time to transition to the Right Seat for my MEI flying.
